All jewellers need to play sometimes. So I love it when someone asks me to make something really quirky and original. Here are some of the things I've made just for fun.
jane's bath plug
enamelled turtle bath plug
long necked turtles flourish in the area where jane lives. i wanted to make her a glamourous piece of jewellery for her birthday. she preferred a bathplug.

handmade egyptian kartouche
i made this namesake pendant for 9 year-old Elizabeth who was studying egyptian culture and history at school. the writing is not how an ancient egyptian would do it of course! i used a letter for letter translation.
warrior woman earrings
hollow form flexible earrings in silver, all the parts move independently from each other
dung beetle earrings
i found these cast silver dung beetles (expertly made by some unknown jeweller, not me) and made dung balls for them to roll and push, now they're earrings
dung beetle earring (oxidised)
sorry - can't resist this rather old joke:
- a dung beetle walks into a bar, and the barman says, "pull up a stool"
tribal mask tiepin
influenced by the tribal masks of central africa. i love the way the silver has oxidised to create a subtle red hue
silver dragon cup & spoon
i forged this silver cup and set it on small dragons carved first in wax, then cast. the spoon handle has a dragon claw around an orb. we use it to put spices on the table
the pawn
cast bronze chess piece
this is part of a south african themed chess-set. the pawn is based on the idea of a zulu "picannin" - child - squatting at a family gathering
the bishop
cast bronze chess piece
this is part of a south african themed chess-set. the bishop is based on the idea of an afrikaans minister - the "dominee"
brick ring
this ring was made by grinding a finger space through a chunk of brick. i was experimenting with using recycled materials. it was harder to make than it looks, and surprisingly comfy
plate metal necklace
oxidised silver hand made beads strung on pearl thread
experimenting with beads in non-traditional shapes and metals
